Admission of Students with Special Educational Needs

The admission process for students with diverse educational needs is conducted on an individual basis, ensuring equal opportunities and respect for diversity. The school is committed to providing an inclusive environment that is responsive to each student’s unique needs

Considerations Regarding the General Admission Process

1. Application for Enrollment and Required Documentation

It is necessary to indicate any specific educational needs of the student in the registration form and provide specialist reports, if available.

2. Interview with the Educational Team

Meeting with the Educational Team to understand the student’s needs in detail and evaluate the necessary accommodations.

3. Evaluation of the Application

After the trial period in the classroom environment, the viability of enrollment is assessed based on the resources available at the school, and a personalized support plan is developed if necessary.

4. Follow-Up and Adaptations

Once admission is approved, ongoing follow-up will be necessary to ensure the student’s well-being and academic and social progress.

The school always works in collaboration with the family and, when necessary, with the external specialists supporting the student, in order to ensure their holistic development within a learning environment tailored to their needs.

Settling-In and Transition Process

At Complutum, we recommend that children visit the school before the academic year begins so they have the opportunity to meet the adults and become familiar with the spaces and materials. They also need time to form an emotional bond and feel secure with the school staff. For this reason, we allow a reference adult to accompany the child during the first days of class, if desired. Meanwhile, it is important that the rest of the children are able to maintain their routines without the presence of a new adult significantly disrupting their day. For children aged 6 to 12 (Elementary), if adaptation to the school is needed, the reference adult will remain outside the classroom environment. The duration of this adaptation period will be agreed upon between the family and the guide, depending on the individual needs of the child. The key is to offer reassurance while a meaningful bond develops between the child, the guide, and their peers. Once this bond is established, the adult’s presence should be withdrawn to support the child’s socio-emotional independence at school.

Adaptation is optional and takes place gradually. To ensure a positive experience for everyone, the reference adult must respect the following guidelines:

● Sit in the designated area and avoid engaging with the classroom environment, as this may interfere with the work of the guides and the freedom of movement of the other children.

● Mantener silencio y una posición neutral. En caso de que un/a niño/a le pida ayuda, puede sugerirle que se acerque a uno de los guías del ambiente.

The time spent in the classroom environment will be agreed upon with the family before the child begins school. Once the child feels secure and has established an emotional bond with the adults and peers at the school, the presence of a familiar adult will no longer be necessary. This transition will be assessed by the adults, and the decision regarding when the child is ready will be made in collaboration between the guides and the family.

Academic Validation Process

Enrollment in any year of Primary or Lower Secondary Education is based on the student’s age and is carried out directly at the school. No validation or equivalency process is required.

Since validation is not an immediate process, students may continue their studies without the official credential of validation or equivalency by submitting a “Conditional Enrollment Form” along with the application for the studies or examinations they intend to pursue. However, it should be noted that this form does not imply a favorable resolution of the validation request.
