Prepared environments

Since the child develops all aspects of their personality and intellect from what they encounter in their environment, we must strive to provide the most optimal space possible to support their development.

The Montessori philosophy is based on three pillars that form a pyramid; at the top is the child, and at the base, we find the prepared environment and the guide.

The materials and activities that make up the Montessori prepared environment are the result of years of scientific research and observation. Maria Montessori experimented with many different materials, variations, and groups of children in order to create the set of materials and activities used today in Montessori classrooms around the world. These have been designed to «stimulate the children’s interest in the type of dynamic activities they need to promote their overall development.» –Dra. Maria Montessori.

Research has shown that children feel better when guided by a responsible adult who provides clear structure, respectful communication, and emotional warmth. Children experience freedom within firm boundaries set by the adult.

The role of the educator in Montessori pedagogy is that of a guide, who observes and understands the individual needs of each child, providing support and fostering the development of independent skills.

Each space is designed to offer an attractive, stimulating environment tailored to each stage of development, allowing work on different surfaces (table, floor, board…) and with various materials organized by work areas (Language, Mathematics, Science…) to develop specific skills.

Teacher-student ratio
